History

The Convent of Saint Clare (Monastery of the Immaculate Conception) was founded in 1743 by brothers Lorenzo and Matías Marín-Blázquez and the Poor Clare nuns from the Monastery of the Incarnation in the nearby town of Mula.

The church entrance is accessed through a semicircular archway, in the center of which are the stone-carved coats of arms of its founders. Inside the cloistered convent are paintings, sculptures and artifacts by various artists, most notably the "Child with the Globe", a work by Salzillo. The monastery church consists of a single nave, and its interior is punctuated by chapels between pilasters of composite origin; it houses the images of Our Lady of Sorrows and Our Lady of Grace and Hope.
