Located next to the Balcony of the Wall and dedicated to the patron saint of Cieza, Saint Bartholomew, the hermitage sits atop one of the towers, possibly the keep, of the city's old fortress, built between 1477 and 1495. Its construction began in 1714 by agreement of the Town Council. On the upper floor is the Conjuratory Hall, from where the fields were blessed in times past.
The building, with a single nave, a square floor plan, and a simple dome, is constructed of brick faced with mortar and yellow stucco. The sacristy corresponds to one of the three towers of what was the fortress, preserved as it was originally designed.
