This coming Sunday, June 7th, Corpus Christi is celebrated, a religious solemnity that honors the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. In our town, on the occasion of this feast, the Corpus Christi monstrance is carried in procession through the streets of the old town, specifically the streets of the "Barrio de la Asunción".
For the past four years, and 2026 will be the fifth, the Brotherhood of Souls has created a salt carpet as a sign of praise to the Body of Christ. This year, the carpet will cover the entire length of "Santo Cristo" Street, 45 meters long and over 110 square meters in area. Religious motifs, symbols of Holy Week, as well as floral decorations and other designs, will form a whole intended as a sign of praise to the Eucharist and Jesus Christ.
On Sunday afternoon, the Corpus Christi throne will process over this salt carpet, as tradition dictates; the bearers will be the first to step on the carpet, a brief and fleeting work that will only be on the cobblestones of "Santo Cristo" Street for a few hours.
