Although the solemn nature of the newly established processions might suggest otherwise, the official start of Holy Week actually takes place on Palm Sunday morning with a large procession. In addition to the brotherhood that owns the float depicting the Entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, which marches at its usual pace, members of the other seventeen brotherhoods of Cieza participate, dressed in their respective vestments and carrying palms and olive branches, all blessed before the procession begins at the portico of the Basilica of Our Lady of the Assumption. The large number of children participating in the long and colorful procession underscores the festive atmosphere of this morning, a day of firsts par excellence for the people of Cieza, who are invariably marked by the sight of the "Burrica" making its way through the town's streets.
Departure time: 11:00 am, after the Blessing of the Palms ("Plaza Mayor").
Arrival time: approximately 2:00 pm ("Dormis" Museum).
Route: "Plaza Mayor", "San Pedro", "Cánovas del Castillo", "Buitragos", "San Sebastián", Corner of the Convent, "Paseo" (left side), "Salvador Seguí", "Buen Suceso", "Angostos", "Tercia", "Santo Cristo", "Cánovas del Castillo", "San Pedro", "Plaza Mayor" and "Cartas".

Unique features and suggestions: The Palm Sunday Procession is not only one of the most popular Holy Week processions, but it also transforms this Sunday morning into one of the most joyful and festive days of the Cieza calendar. It is the only procession in which all the brotherhoods that make up the Board of Passionate Brotherhoods participate, represented by a large number of members, many of them children, each dressed in their respective robes. They take to the streets to meet the townspeople, who eagerly await a parade full of light and color, enlivened by cheerful pasodobles. The forest of palms and olive branches announces the arrival of the float depicting The Entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, popularly known as the "Burrica", perhaps the finest and most popular work of the Cieza sculptor Manuel J. Carrillo Marco, in a procession that reaches its climax with its truly triumphant passage along the Paseo. The elegant and highly personal style of the "dormis" bearers transforms the ordinary pace with which the "Burrica" parades into a true spectacle that is another of the attractions of this great opening celebration of Holy Week in Cieza.
