Processional transfer of the Holy Christ of Forgiveness

Passion Saturday night

On the eve of Palm Sunday, the Transfer of the Holy Christ of Forgiveness, the most venerated image in the Saint Joachim neighborhood, takes place in a solemn procession organized by its brotherhood. The procession carries the image from the Convent of Saint Joachim to the Basilica of Our Lady of the Assumption, from where it will participate in the Holy Wednesday and Good Friday processions. The platform used to carry the Crucified Christ is positioned at an angle, allowing it to exit through the convent door.

Departure time: 10:00 pm (Convent of Saint Joachim and Saint Paschal).
Arrival time: approximately 11:30 pm (Basilica of Our Lady of the Assumption).
Route: Corner of the Convent, "San Sebastián", "Buitragos", "Cánovas del Castillo", "Barco", "La Hoz" and "Plaza Mayor".
Order of procession: Brotherhood of the Holy Christ of Forgiveness and the Blessed Virgin of Beautiful Love, Holy Christ of Forgiveness and marching band.

Unique features and suggestions: The mere presence of Benedito's sovereign effigy, an undisputed masterpiece of 20th-century Christ-themed imagery, justifies a visit to greet it as it leaves the Convent of Saint Joachim and Saint Paschal, where crowds gather awaiting the venerated image. Furthermore, its unusual placement on the throne allows for the appreciation of many artistic details that go unnoticed in its usual presentation. But the culminating moment of the evening undoubtedly occurs in the "Plaza Mayor", when, at the very instant the float emerges from "La Hoz" Street, the musical piece "Tras una mirada tuya", composed by Teo Aparicio to accompany Christ's passage through the square towards the basilica, begins to play. The work, very solemn and descriptive in nature, evolves from the imposing drama of its first steps to the poetic sweetness that frames the encounter, on the threshold of the church, between Christ and the image of the Virgin from the sculptural group of the float The Encounter of Jesus and Mary on the Street of Bitterness, by Hernández Navarro, who seems to come out of the darkness of the temple to receive her Son, thus defining a gathering of the procession that is in time, emotional and with a well-defined personality.
