Last night at 9:00 p.m., from the Holy Week Museum house, the Solidarity Walk organized by the Charity Board of the Passion Brotherhood Board took place. Nearly 300 people signed up to carry it out through the beautiful places of our Cieza Watchtower that, with a wonderful full moon, were able to enjoy views of Cieza that are unusual to see often.
The walk passed through the Collado de la Atalaya, where the hermitage of the Patron Saint, the Virgen del Buen Suceso, remained open to receive the walkers who were arriving at the refreshment post, rest for a few minutes and continue the march towards the goal. They took advantage of the stop at the hermitage so that one of the voluntary members of hands together explained what was the project towards which the money collected was going to be dedicated. It is intended for a project to supply drinking water by gravity to three villages in Cameroon, Central Africa. The project is located in three villages in the mountainous region of Northwest Cameroon, in the emblematic High Lands or “High Lands”, in the isolated Mbam Valley, located between mountains higher than 2,000 m., at an altitude of 1,800 meters. The climate in the valley is pleasant. Despite these conditions, its inhabitants have a hard life. They live exclusively from subsistence agriculture and small livestock. Their income is very low, less than a dollar a day, among other reasons, due to the accused isolation in which they find themselves. The inhabitants of this valley have a major problem: the water available from streams is unhealthy and difficult to access. This entails serious health problems (there is a high incidence of diseases such as dysentery, typhus and diarrhea), and a great effort to carry water.
The project would consist of the construction of two collection tanks for water intake from nearby springs, of 5m3 each; a 30 m³ tank; 4 valve chambers, a network of 5,929 m. of pipelines with 5 chambers and 10 public fountains and thus supply drinking water to the population of Ngdzen, Mbamsong and Ghoh in 12 months. The direct beneficiaries are 4,000 and the indirect 7,000. The general objective of the project is to contribute to improving the living conditions of the population of the Mbam valley in the northeastern region of Cameroon and to solve the problems of lack of access to abundant drinking water and in good sanitary conditions and to remedy serious health problems caused by for the lack
A large working group has been behind its organization: charity members, volunteer marchers, members of united hands,…. that during the last few days they have worked so that everything was prepared for the realization of this event and everything turned out to be correct, as well as in the search for sponsors and collaborators, who in solidarity have also helped to carry out this walk.
