Tomorrow, Sunday, June 22nd, Corpus Christi will be celebrated, a religious solemnity that honors the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. In our town, on the occasion of this festivity,as is tradition, the Corpus monstrance will be carried in procession through the streets of our old town.
For three years, the Brotherhood of "Ánimas" has been making a salt carpet as a sign of praise to the Holy Eucharist. In this case, the carpet will cover the entire "Santo Cristo" Street. Religious motifs, symbols of Holy Week, as well as floral decorations and other drawings that give a nod to events that occurred during this year, will form a whole intended as a sign of praise to the Eucharist and Jesus Christ.
Tomorrow afternoon, the Corpus Christi throne will be carried in procession over this salt carpet. As tradition dictates, the bearers will be the first to walk on the carpet, a brief and fleeting performance that will last only a few hours on the cobblestones of "Santo Cristo" Street.
The Brotherhood of "Ánimas" invites the people of Cieza to visit this carpet and witness the moving moment of the Corpus Christi procession over the salt on "Santo Cristo" Street.
